My Personal Style Journey

As a huge fashion lover, I love reading pretty much anything style related from outfit of the day blog posts to articles on seasonal trends and high street fashion finds. However, over the past few years, I have become increasingly intrigued by the idea of personal style and how it can be defined. Since my teens, I have always had a rough idea of the general vibe I like to go for. However reading “The Curated Closet” by the wonderful Anuschka Rees has really helped me to define exactly what that is. Her handy step by step guide has prompted me to think a little more about the colour palettes I like to sport, the pieces I feel suit my body shape and the people and things that inspire me.

As far back as I can remember I have forever been inspired by the likes of Alexa Chung, Agyness Dean, Suki Waterhouse and more recently Megan Ellaby. I just love those 60’s / 70’s retro vibes and masculine silhouettes. Another factor I am pretty big on in terms of style is comfort – how controversial. Although some may consider this a fashion faux pas as “beauty equals pain” and all that, fashion isn’t fun unless you are having a good time right? Personally, I can’t think of anything worse than strutting around in tight, restrictive clothing or high heels from hell on the daily for the sake of “fashun”.

With this being said, I would like to introduce you to my latest go-to outfit which best portrays both my personal style and love for comfort. Although I might have looked a little bit like a 118 man in this little get-up, I promise that wasn’t my intention. In fact, I actually felt a lot more like … myself. If that makes any sense. Therefore, I thought I would document this mini personal style milestone here on my blog.

The Trousers

I first spotted these whilst endlessly flicking through my Instagram stories (those things are mega addictive, am I right?). What can I say? It was love at first click! Being a petite girl, scouting out trousers that aren’t meters too long for my tiny little legs can be a struggle. However, this pair from Zara somehow fit like a dream (can I get an amen?). I just love their “athleisure” feel and whilst they may feel like I am wearing pyjama bottoms, when paired with something a little smarter e.g a shirt and loafers, they can actually pass for workwear – result!

These classic Vans are quickly becoming my go-to shoes of the minute (step aside converse). They are the ultimate box ticker shoe – they are versatile, comfortable and oh so easy to style.

The Jacket

You know that friend that you don’t see all that often but when you do, you just have the best time together? Well, this denim jacket is that friend. During the winter months, it is stored in the depths of my wardrobe. However, as soon as the sun starts to appear around June time, this summer staple takes pride of place and is worn on every possible occasion. This summer I have also enjoyed customising my denim with patches and badges too for a little-added somethin’ somethin’!

The Jumper

After falling head over heels for those Bella Freud jumpers – you know the ones, I was ecstatic to see that New Look had released a few Freud-esque numbers! Although it may be bold in colour – for me anyway, I know this is something that I will wear on the regular, especially with the winter months fast approaching.

This backpack aka “The old faithful” is one of my all time favourite fashion purchases. I originally picked it up from Marks and Spencers a few years ago, and it is fair to say that it has served me well!  It is big enough to fit everything I need inside yet small enough to avoid looking bulky. I find this especially handy whenever I plan on taking my blogging camera along with me.
