18 Moments of 2018

For me, 2018 has been a pretty fab year, from working with some of my dream brands to exploring new places with some of my favourite people, it has been filled with some pretty amazing memories. With 2019 right around the corner, I thought it would be nice to take a little look back at the year and reminisce over a few of the best bits – “Gratitude is wine for the soul” and all that … with that in mind, here are 18 of my favourite moments from the year 2018 .

Started a new job!

At the beginning of the year I took on a shiny new role as digital content creator / social media manager at a Glasgow based creative agency. Within this role, I have the opportunity to work on some really cool projects with our clients and have met a whole bunch of mega-talented people. Here’s to more fun projects in 2019!

Pinch me Collabs

This year my blog / insta took off on ways that I had never expected. Although my following isn’t all that huge in the grand scheme of things, I have been able to work with a handful of my dream brands including TRNSMT Fest and Topshop – (eek). I was also fortunate enough to be taken on two amazing road trips with the fab people from CCW which were so much fun! I cannot wait to get some more content out there in the new year and cannot wait to see what lies ahead for GRLBAND Blog!

Makin’ Waves in Barcelona

The only thing better than visiting your favourite place? Revisiting with your favourite people! In September this year, I headed back to Barcelona for a few days of sunshine and exploring with my friend Lottie. Whilst there, we decided to escape the city for a few hours and book in for a paddle surfing session at my go-to Barca hang – Surf House. Here we spent the morning paddle boarding from Barceloneta beach out into the crystal blue ocean whilst taking in some of the most amazing views of the city. It really was a morning to remember!

It’s Only Rock n’ Roll but I Like it…

2018 was the year that I finally saw The Stones. Live. In the Flesh. – Yep, I still can’t believe it actually happened. If it weren’t for my Insta story archive, I’d probably believe it was all a dream. The whole day was just pure perfection. From the pre-gig meal Annabelle and I had at Paradise Palms, to the Stone’s insane performance it was everything could have hoped for and more.

Explorin’ Berlin!

Berlin had always been high up there on my to-visit list and earlier this year, I finally got round to ticking it off my bucket list with my sister. From the city’s amazing street art and Wes Anderson style architecture to the abundance of delicious eateries, it definitely lived up to my expectations!

Midnight Giggin’

Fatherson will forever be one of my favourite live bands of all time, so you can imagine how excited I was to have bagged tickets to their midnight TRNSMT pre-show at King Tuts this summer. Playing a perfect compilation of their classics and their new material, the set was an absolute dream. I feel so lucky to have been able to see them at such a small venue. P.s if you haven’t listened to their reimagined version of “Making Waves” I suggest you add it to your playlist asap – it is heavenly!

Nice Day for a White Wedding

In February this year, my cousin married his wife in the most beautiful venue in Glasgow. Filled with family friends and plenty of gin it was just the best day. It was also my first time ever attending a wedding – they have definitely set the bar!

Going Bongo for Bingo

This year, I said hello to the big 2-5 will some of my favourite blogger babes at Bongo’s Bingo –  and oh my god, what a night it was. If you haven’t experienced Bongo’s before I would whole- heartedly suggest booking up for the next date, you won’t regret it! There are just no words.  I actually managed to attend two of their Glasgow dates this year and both nights were just insane. Gin, dancing, cardboard cut out of Phillip Schofield? What’s not to love?

Milport Ahoy…

This year, Scotland was treated to the most amazing summer! I mean, it was actually hot – toasty in fact. The cherry on the cake? At the end of June, the stars also aligned and the hottest day of the year happened to fall just as I took my friend from London to Milport for the day. The place looked tropical! It is amazing what a little bit of sun can do – eh? During our visit, we had an picnic by the beach, paddled in the water for a much needed cool down before heading to the Island’s famous Ritz cafe for a cheeky 99.

Pals Make Glasgow

Throughout the year, my friend Karen and I have spent some amazing days hangin’ in and around the city. From the drinking all the caffeine at Glasgow Coffee Festival to partying at TRNSMT fest and checking out Glasglow in December, we have spent some pretty amazing days together. Here’s to more good times in 2019!

Mag Lovin’

This year, I was lucky enough to be feature in 94 Mag. How cool eh? I absolutely love checking out indie mags and have so much appreciation for the creative geniuses who put so much magic into putting them together. Therefore, I was over the moon when the fab people at 94 Mag featured me in their “Instagram artists we think you should check out” column alongside Kashmere, Gingerbread Maid and Saint Hoax.

Going Green

This year I have made a major effort to reduce the amount of animal products in my diet. In August I took part in the 22 day vegan challenge (which I would totally recommend btw) and I was so surprised at how easy I found it to change things up. Since then I have been eating a lot more plant-based meals and treats and have loved experimenting with vegan recipes. I will also be taking part in Veganuary next month! Personally, I really hate to put labels on things and wouldn’t want to commit to saying I’m “this or that” (especially on social media) as everyone slips up now and then. However, I do believe that any conscious effort to reduce animal consumption is a step in the right direction.

School’s IN!

Naturally, I am someone who loves to learn and since starting my blog I have become more and more intrigued by the world of photography. Therefore, in September I decided to head back to college to learn a little bit more about the technical side of photography and digital editing. My verdict? I LOVED it! I now feel so much more comfortable when out shooting, whether that is for work or just for the Insta. I’ve also fallen in love with photo editing and could spend hours switching up my snaps. I cannot wait to head back again for the intermediate course in March and look forward to learning even more skills in 2019!

Going back to 505…

Again, the Arctic Monkeys have been on my gig bucket list for a long time – and this year I was lucky enough to catch them, twice! Too much Alex Turner just isn’t a thing right? For the record – both gigs were just as magical as I had hoped!

Viva Espana

In August this year, I visited Madrid for the very first time with a bunch of amazing people. As it was a last minute trip, we didn’t really have anything planned for our visit, but I think thats what made it all the more special. We spent the week catching up whilst eating some of the best meals I’ve ever had and drinking our way around the city. We even stumbled upon a rooftop pool where we inevitably spent the afternoon basking in the sun, cocktails in hand – what a life eh?

Stay- cationing

Around March this year, my family and I headed to the borders for a few days of R&R. On our journey home, we decided to make a last minute pitstop at the beautiful seaside town of North Berwick.  The sun was splitting the sky once again and I was taken aback by just how cute this little town was with its picturesque seaside huts and indie retailers. I also had one of the best coffees I have ever tried (a bold claim, I know) at the town’s Steampunk Cafe. I would absolutely love to return here in the new year.

To the Toon!

Think Northern Soul meets Motown all under one roof. In April, I met up with two of my favourite Geordies at the Motoon club night at William Brewery, Newcastle.  As a huge northern soul fan, the night was right up my street – the venue was also pretty insane. It was so nice to see people of all ages there sharing the love for the soul! I would love to see this night come to Glasgow sometime soon.

Switching it up.

This year, I have put so much more effort into my photos / the editing of my photos and I finally feel like my online ~brand~ is very me. Completely switching up my blog name and logo etc has sparked a much needed dose of bloggin’ motivation and I cannot wait to create some more fun content over the next 12 months. I already have a few exciting opportunities in the pipeline for 2019 and cannot wait to see what else the year brings!
